Katherine Walden Quotes

A dead end is only the end if you fail to take the turn. We waste a lot more energy trying to find a way across a dead end street than we would if we stopped and asked for directions to get to where we were going in the first place.

I know I can't do a thing to earn my salvation but now that I am His, I will do everything in my power to show Him how much I love him. I live to please the One I love who has transformed me with HIS love.

When I find myself racing around, trying to fill a day with mindless tasks or petty entertainment, this is usually the time that God whispers to my heart to draw away with Him and to silence my heart as He wishes to speak.

Isn't it nice to know we have assurance for today through Christ and not just insurance against the what-ifs of tomorrow?

A heart that does not have the true ability to be utterly and genuinely delighted and grateful by the simple gift given by a friend will find it difficult to be utterly delighted in the gifts given by the King.

When I was leading a home group, it began to irritate me when people would ask for a "little prayer" or worse yet, they'd ask for a "little blessing". I have a huge yellow plastic bowl I use for making popcorn, a staple of this home group. Everyone was well acquainted with the bounty this bowl would hold. On one occasion where we had cookies instead of popcorn for the snack, I asked at prayer time, "Does anyone want prayer for anything, or for a blessing in general?" A woman requested "a little blessing". I stomped out to the kitchen and pulled out the yellow bowl and a small soup bowl. I presented both to my group. "Which do you want? All of God's blessings or just a "little" blessing?" It made such an impact that people started asking for a "yellow bowl" blessing.

What 'one thing', what person, what position, what passion immediately comes to mind when you hear this question? "What one thing would you hold back from God? What would cause you to say, "Oh Lord, I will give you anything, I will do anything for you, I will go anywhere, I will give away anything... but that" The answer to that question is the 'one thing' you need to give to the Lord, more than anything else. Often, when we surrender such a deep sense of ownership to the Lord, He in his loving grace will allow us to have that 'one thing' again, with the caution to remember we are only stewards of that 'one thing.' Oftentimes, He, in his wisdom, does not allow us to have that 'one thing' back. It is a step of submission and obedience; and a risk that is vitally important for the sake of our spiritual growth. God said. "You shall have no other gods before me."Ex 20:3

Unforgiveness is like a scratch on an old record. It keeps the beautiful music yet to be released unheard and all that resounds are the same old three or four chords again and again and again.

Sometimes, it is easier to hide behind self rejection and self loathing rather than to deal with specific areas of sin that the Lord points out to us. But what is easier often becomes a snare, never allowing us to truly take personal responsibility for our actions. For example, it can be easier to say, "I am a horrible person and utterly hopeless, so why even try?" than to say. "I repent of my selfish anger and with God's grace, I choose to work with Him so I no longer live in this anger"

In light of the great sacrifice given by Christ in order to gain my freedom, do I utilize all that was given to me through that supreme act of love? Letting freedom, grace and mercy grow dusty on my shelf and not incorporating his great gifts into my life and the lives of those around me could be easily be seen as sinful disdain and ingratitude

In my teens, I was approached by a total stranger on a crowded city street. She said. "You are Kae Cameron's daughter, I'd recognize her face any where!" And she was right. How I long for the day when people look at my life and say. "Oh, you must be a daughter of the Heavenly Father, I recognize His face anywhere!"

God will not lose heart! From creation to now, God has never given up on his stubborn rebellious children and He never will. He is constantly loving, constantly caring, constantly creating ways to remind us that He is there and He is aware, achingly aware, of our hearts and our desperate need for Him. He sent His Son as a sign of his utter total, reckless heart of love that would do anything to woo us back into His arms.

Right now, this very second, this very moment that you spend reading these words is 'new'. How you choose to be a steward of that 'new slate' is up to you. My fervent prayer is that I never take for granted that gift of 'newness' and that I do all in his power granted to me to cherish the potential of 'all things new'. Relationships strained, mistakes made, I'll bring them to the cross so I can treasure the gift of newness he grants me every day. 1 Jn 1:9 NIV "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."

God is not like a earthly parent. His 'not yet' means just that, 'not yet' and not 'no'. Earthly parents sometimes lie with the words 'not yet', when they mean 'no', thinking they are being kind. God's 'yes' is always 'yes' and His 'no' is always 'no'. He does not forget His promises and makes no promises He will not keep.

If you are feeling cluttered in your spirit, ask yourself. "Is there clutter in my life? Do I have a closet full of closed and sealed boxes that have been untouched in years without being used?" So it can be in our spiritual life. Do you have spiritual gifts, treasures, insights and lessons learned that you have put away into storage and are not using? Give them away! Utilize them in your life today! Clear the closet!

While it may break the heart of a wise parent, they realize that it is not love to shelter a child from every adversity and all hardship. It is through occasional adversity and the winds of life blowing against us that we develop the muscles to stand strong and steady, gaining our moral balance.

Contrition, repentance, acknowledgement of personal responsibility and sorrow over sin should never include massive self-hatred and total self-rejection. God's conviction points to a specific sin, it is sharp and accurate, going straight to the point where repentance is needed. Truly understanding this principle will lead you into freedom from your past so you can serve God and His people without the fetters of constantly looking behind.

The proof that you love someone is not that you have warm affectionate feelings toward them. The proof is in your actions, your words and your sacrifice, your willingness to give the best of yourself and your willingness to get nothing in return.

While the Lord calls me to be wise and discerning, he reminds me often that his discernment cannot dwell in a cynical distrustful heart. With Him, there is no hidden agenda and no ulterior motive. His gifts are free for the taking but I cannot take these gifts if my hands are already full of my own weapons of self-protection. Therefore, He asks me to lay down the shields that I have forged for protection and pick up the shield of faith in their place. He asks me to take Him at His Word.

In the same manner in which we clean and prepare our homes in the anticipation of welcomed guests and family members this Christmas season, let us also prepare our hearts in anticipation of the Lord's coming. Christ, our most honoured and eagerly anticipated guest, desires to meet with us in a heart prepared for his arrival. So eager is he to meet with us that he offers to help us with our spiritual housecleaning, working with us; creating a resting place for Himself within our hearts.

If, when searching for God's will and direction, you cannot hear clearly - ask yourself this. Have you obeyed the last task the Lord directed you to perform? If not, repent, go do the task if the Lord still directs and then pray again for direction.

Confessing our sins is not for God's benefit, we aren't telling him something that he doesn't already know. Confessing our sins brings our own sinful nature to the forefront of our own eyes. It is now in the light, no longer hiding in the shadows. When we confess to God, it's now out in the open and we are held accountable to repent, to turn away from that sin. We can no longer deny its existence, for the hearer of our confession is our witness. Often, God will bring us support to continue in the path of turning from a besetting sin in the form of a friend or a spiritual leader who will lovingly hold us accountable.

Parents, you will teach your children more by scheduling regular times to nurture the relationship between husband and wife than you would ever teach them through a lecture on committment. Although it is important for you pray to for your child, seeking the Lord for that perfect spouse for them, it is equally important that you teach them through your example how to cherish the future gift of a companion that the Lord has in store for them.

I believe many who struggle with prayer have failed to grasp an awesome truth. That the creator of the universe, the maker of heaven and earth, the great I am, the saviour of mankind, the healer of all diseases and the one who rules the universe has summoned us to meet with him in the throne room. No earthly subject would dare not to obey the summons of an earthly king; most would count it a great honour and privilege to do so. Why then are we so lax in responding to our Lord's summons to draw near to him? Not only is he our King, he is our heavenly father who waits patiently for his children to fellowship with him in the Holy of Holies.

Proof of your devotion to Jesus Christ and your willingness to share His gospel is not found in whether or not you cut and paste viral Facebook statuses, re-tweet a twitter or forward an email to ten of your friends. The proof is found in your willingness to share his truths in your own words and worship from a place free of imposed manipulation and a heart unburdened by the guilt imposed by those who desire that you to comply with their urgent demands.

I am a committed to-the-death devoted follower of Jesus Christ. I am not a mere fan who will walk away when I don't like what he asks me to do or when my 'self' disagrees with his solution to a problem in my life.

Without the victory of the resurrection, the death of Jesus would have been in vain. For death by itself is no victory, no matter how well-meaning the sacrificial lamb, no matter how noble the cause. Through His resurrection, Christ broke the power of death once and for all time. Salvation was not completed only by the cross. It was completed by the victory of the empty tomb."... Death has been swallowed up in victory. Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." 1 Cor 15:54b-57

As I was falling asleep one night, I 'heard' the wail and weeping of hundreds of souls in deep travail. I asked God. "Who are these who weep so?" And God answered. "These are the cries of the persecuted church, who intercede for those Christians who live in freedom of faith and take it for granted." My heart broke.

It seems a lot of Christians are quick to condemn the world and write its inhabitants off as lost causes. Its odd, though, Jesus never did. He healed and lovingly confronted. Jesus engaged and walked among his enemies, not to breath fire upon them but to breathe life into them. He could only do so by being part of their lives. He didn't write books, he didn't constrain his preaching to only the synagogues, He didn't stand aloof; bad mouthing the world and his enemies to his disciples, no, Jesus deliberately walked and lived amongst those he came to serve.

When I am in the midst of the desert, wondering if there is any possible way out of my situation, it is hard to imagine God working behind the scenes. He is. He has his own time. He knows what needs to be in place for the fruition of his promises. I cling to this truth. Even in the darkest night, I know that my redeemer lives and is at work in my life.

May you know Him as..
The God who sings over you and with you in Joy
The God who rejoices over you and with you.
The God whose mountains and hills break forth before you into singing;
and all the trees of His fields clap their hands
The God who walks beside you, delighting with you as He directs your every step.

May you know Him as.. The God who compassionately comforts you as a Father in all your troubles
The God who strengthens your inner man by His Spirit that is always with you.
The God who is your strength, your refuge and a very evident and present help.
The God who is your shield and protection when you are under attack.
The ever present God who is eternally your peace.

For unto us a child is born,
Unto us a son is given:
And the government shall be upon his shoulder:
And his name shall be called
Wonderful, Counsellor,
The mighty God,
The everlasting Father,
The Prince of Peace. Isa 9:6

And that child grew up..
To become....
our Saviour.
Our Redeemer
Our Portion
Our Strong Tower
Our Friend.

It is not always 'at our earliest convenience' that God expects a response from us. More times than not, it is at our greatest inconvenience that he requires instantaneous obedience. We cannot gauge God's direction and guidance in our lives by how well it fits into our schedule or how it causes us the least amount of difficulty or the least damage to our reputation in the community.
