Adversity is always unexpected and unwelcomed. It is an intruder and a thief, and yet in the hands of God, adversity becomes the means through which His supernatural power is demonstrated.

For some years now I have read through the Bible twice every year. If you picture the Bible to be a mighty tree and every word a little branch, I have shaken every one of these branches because I wanted to know what it was and what it meant.

Faith Alone: A Daily Devotional
By Martin Luther; James C. Galvin, ed.

Powerful excepts from the writings of one of the giants of the faith. It has been almost 500 years since Martin Luther wrote his famous ninety-five theses and nailed them to the door of the Castle Church in Germany. His challenge to the doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church ignited the Protestant Reformation and shaped the evangelical tradition of the modern church. As he anguished in his quest for truth, Luther came to understand that salvation is a radically free gift that must be accepted by "faith alone." Freshly translated from the original German into today's language, this book contains a treasury of daily devotionals taken from some of Luther's best writings and sermons that reveal both the fervency of his beliefs and his profound theological insights.

Unforgiveness is like a scratch on an old record. The song never goes on to the end, it keeps the beautiful music yet to be released unheard and all that resounds are the same old three or four chords again and again and again.

Some Christians spend the first six days of each week sowing their wild oats, then they go to church on Sunday and pray for a crop failure.

O brother, pray; in spite of Satan, pray; spend hours in prayer; rather neglect friends than not pray; rather fast, and lose breakfast, dinner, tea, and supper - and sleep too - than not pray. And we must not talk about prayer, we must pray in right earnest. The Lord is near. He comes softly while the virgin slumbers.

Love finds no steady home in psychological health. I am sure God wants us to be whole and healthy in every way possible, but love neither depends upon these things nor ends with them. In fact, blessings sometimes come through brokenness that could never come in any other way.

There's much more for me included in Christ's salvation than merely a paid ticket to heaven. There is victory over present circumstances if I am willing to accept it.

30563: The Worship Warrior The Worship Warrior
By Chuck Pierce

According to the authors, the Church is being prepared to enter its most dynamic season of warfare, worship and harvest. The key to victory during this time will be our worship. When we praise God, He comes into our midst and manifests His rule and authority in our environment. He actually abides with us and dwells in the very center of our lives to lead us in the paths He chooses for us. When we ascend in worship, we go to the throne of God and receive our strategy from Him to fulfill His purposes on Earth. In effect, we align with God's purposes and then we descent with our marching orders to accomplish those purposes. The result of this supernatural process will be a great harvest of souls for God's kingdom.

Certainly true worship invigorates, but to plan invigoration is not necessarily to order worship. As all that glitters is not gold, so all that makes us feel happy and strong is not worship. The question is not whether a particular liturgical form is used, but whether a God-centred as distinct from man-centred perspective is maintained-whether, in other words, the sense that man exists for God rather than God for man is cherished or lost. We need to discover all over again that worship is natural to the Christian, as it was to the godly Israelites who wrote the psalms, and that the habit of celebrating the greatness and graciousness of God yields an endless flow of thankfulness, joy, and zeal.

6301852: Authority & Submission Authority & Submission
By Watchman Nee

Our God is a God of order and divine arrangement, and He desires that all things be headed up in Christ (Eph.1:10). In opposition to the divine will, there is rebellion and chaos in God's creation due to the fall of humanity. According to God's divine arrangement, the reestablishment of order in the universe is centered on the relationship between Christ, the Head, and the church, His Body. Christ has been made Head over all things to the Church (Eph. 1:22), and the living exercise of authority and submission within the Body of Christ is central to the working out of God's Divine will.

In Authority and Submission, Watchman Nee presents many helpful principles and examples from the Holy Scriptures related to the proper exercise of both authority and submission, an exercise that is according to the divine life in the Body of Christ.

God is interested in developing your character. At times He lets you proceed, but He will never let you go too far without discipline to bring you back. In your relationship with God, He may let you make a wrong decision. Then the Spirit of God causes you to recognize that it is not God's will. He guides you back to the right path. He will clarify what He wants. He will even take the circumstances of your disobedience and work that together for good (Rom. 8:28) as He corrects you and teaches you His ways.

Trust is faith that has become absolute, approved, and accomplished. When all is said and done, there is a sort of risk in faith and its exercise. But trust is firm belief; it is faith in full bloom. Trust is a conscious act, a fact of which we are aware.

You can operate your business without Christ. You can make it run well. You can raise your family without Christ. You can even pastor a church without Christ. But if you do, you will find that there will be no fruit, no Christlikeness, no manifestation of that beautiful character which arrests the attention of others. Instead there will be a sham, a phony imitation of the real thing, which will drive people away from Christ and will produce nothing but a dull, mechanical religiosity.

The elements which determine the make of any particular sermon are three; the preacher, the material, and the audience; just as the character of any battle is determined by three elements; the gun (including the gunner), the ammunition, and the fortress against which the attack is made.

In worship God gathers his people to himself as centre: "The Lord reigns" (Ps. 93:1). Worship is a meeting at the centre so that our lives are centred in God and not lived eccentrically. We worship so that we live in response to and from this centre, the living God. Failure to worship consigns us to a life of spasms and jerks, at the mercy of every advertisement, every seduction, every siren. Without worship we live manipulated and manipulating lives. We move in either frightened panic or deluded lethargy as we are, in turn, alarmed by spectres and soothed by placebos. If there is no centre, there is no circumference. People who do not worship are swept into a vast restlessness, epidemic in the world, with no steady direction and no sustaining purpose.

90313: Against the Wind Against the Wind
By K. P. Yohannan

A choice is set before you and what you decide will determine whether or not you will one day be able to declare: "I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith" or if you will remain in the camp of compromise, holding to a form of godliness but knowing nothing of its power.

In this practical and inspiring book, K.P. Yohannan reveals how we who began well can also finish well. We can live above the compromise, press against the wind and reach the goal. What will you choose?
