It is said that when the famous missionary, Dr. David Livingstone, started his trek across Africa he had 73 books in 3 packs, weighing 180 pounds. After the party had gone 300 miles, Livingstone was obliged to throw away some of the books because of the fatigue of those carrying his baggage. As he continued on his journey his library grew less and less, until he had but one book left - his Bible.

The three greatest needs of every man: to be dead in Christ, to be dead to sin, and to be dead to what other people think.

A Christian prisoner in Cuba was asked to sign a statement containing charges against fellow Christians that would lead to their arrest. He said: "The chain keeps me from signing this."
The Communist officer protested, "But you are not in chains!"
"I am," said the Christian. "I am bound by the chain of witnesses who throughout the centuries gave their lives for Jesus Christ. I am a link in this chain. I will not break it."

Sin forsaken is the best evidence of sin forgiven.

In Christ we have...
A love that can never be fathomed,
A life that can never die,
A righteousness that can never be tarnished,
A peace that can never be understood,
A rest that can never be disturbed,
A joy that can never be diminished,
A hope that can never be disappointed,
A glory that can never be clouded,
A light that can never be darkened,
A purity that can never be defiled,
A beauty that can never be marred,
A wisdom that can never be baffled,
Resources that can never be exhausted.
Jesus is our all in all!

The happiest people don't necessarily have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.

If you have a murmuring spirit, you cannot have true cheerfulness; it will generally show up in your countenance and your voice. Some little fretfulness or restlessness of tone will betray it. Your cheerfulness is forced, it does not spring up freely and healthily our of your heart, which it can only do when that is truly at rest in God; when you are satisfied with His ways, and wishing no change in them.

Commercialization has obscured the meaning of Christmas. The commercial has become more important than the carol. What man has to sell more important than what God has given.

In this new community where Christ is head, things are different. Here people are less concerned with finding their life than with losing it for Christ. Here meekness, not muscle, is the mark of greatness. If the church is not radically different from the world, something is radically wrong. To be salt and light in the world implies a marked contrast between the way of life in the world and the way of life in the church.

Christmas is not about a certain day, December 25th, or how our houses look, or how nice the gifts are that we receive. Christmas is about the truth of Christ being born in your heart, and the fact that truth is to be carried in your heart all year long. One month from today, the trappings of Christmas will be gone from our retail stores, and the endless versions of Rudolph-the-Red-Nosed-Reindeer will be gone from our radio programming. Our beautiful poinsettias will be leaf-less and wilted. The wrapping paper on our gifts will be in our trash cans and our streets will be littered with old, brittle, dead trees. If those trappings of Christmas are for you, the true meaning of the life of the Savior, then your Christian faith is of little value to your ultimate salvation.

Adultery isn't something that happens with the act - it happens months beforehand. It's an attitude. You disconnect yourself from the person you've said you're spending the rest of your life with. Minister - who committed adultery

Some people give according to their means, others according to their meanness.

I remember once walking along the beach with a friend. We spoke intensely about our relationship, trying hard to explain ourselves to each other and to understand each other's feelings. We were so preoccupied with our mutual struggle that we didn't notice the magnificent sunset spreading a rich spectrum of colour over the foam-capped waves breaking on the wide, silent beach. Suddenly my friend exclaimed: "Look. look at the sun, look!" He put his arm around my shoulder, and together we gazed at the shimmering ball of fire vanishing gradually below the horizon of the wide ocean. At that moment, we both knew about hope and joy.

Do all in your power not to fall, for the strong athlete should not fall. But if you do fall, get up again at once and continue the contest. Even if you fall a thousand times...rise up again each time, and keep on doing this until the day of your death.

Is it for you to lead Jesus to where you want to go or for Him to lead you where He wants you to be?

To give God the service of the body and not of the soul - is hypocrisy. To give God the service of the soul and not of the body is sacrilege. To give God neither is atheism and to give God both is worship.

The heart of Christianity is the bible, the heart of the bible is the cross and the heart of the cross is the very heart of God. Inscribed upon the cross we see in shining letters. "God is love". The Lamb who died upon the tree has bought mercy from above.

Human compliments are like perfume. Smell them, enjoy them while they last. Please don't drink them; they will poison you.

Have you been waiting upon God, dear troubled one, during long nights and weary days, and have feared that you were forgotten? Nay, lift up your head, and begin to praise Him even now for the deliverance which is on its way to you.

The light of heaven is the face of Jesus Christ; the joy of heaven is the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ; the melody of heaven is the name of Jesus Christ. The theme of heaven is the work of Jesus Christ. The employment of heaven is the work of Jesus Christ. The fullness of heaven is the Lord Jesus Christ, himself.

Many people dread death, and lament that they have not "dying grace." Of course, they will not have dying grace when they are in good health, in the midst of life's duties, with death far in advance. Why should they have it then? Grace for duty is what they need then, living grace; then dying grace when they come to die.
